NITE originates from Noord Nederlands Toneel (NNT) – one of the Dutch National Theater companies- in close collaboration with one of the leading contemporary dance companies in the Netherlands: Club Guy and Roni.
National Interdisciplinary Theater Ensemble (NITE) creates a new performing arts language by innovating and exploring the borders between art disciplines like dance, theatre, video, music, visual arts and fashion through newly written text, with new stories, empowering new perspectives and narratives then the leading ones, and breaking the norm.
CLUB GUY & RONI
Club Guy and Roni is one of the leading contemporary dance companies from the Netherlands, structurally funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Netherlands. The Club creates and innovates contemporary dance collaborating with independent artists and companies from the global south in the Human Odyssey. The performances are created from urgent topics, exploring the boundaries of various dance styles and other art disciplines, built upon the belief that the complexity of the 21st century world can no longer be described in a single language or art discipline.
Meet Guy Weizman and Roni Haver, their unique interdisciplinary ensemble of dancers, actors and musicians, and learn about ‘the Club’ and NITE.
During the pandemic we opened the NITE HOTEL a virtual theatre platform housing custom made, collaborative performances and exchanges between artists and audiences. We explored cross-platform performances, delivering art at people’s doorstep and meeting them online, and hosted a 24-hour art carrousel meeting over 200 artists’ and their work with a 30.000+ audience.
International co-productions with dance and theatre companies around the world, capturing the human existential pillars, creating a collective story: Phobia (2015), Happiness (2016), Freiheit (2018), Love (2019), Freedom (2020), Fortune (2022), Empathy (2023) and Faith (2024).
FREEDOM toured intensively in the Netherlands, on the Tanzkongress in Mainz (Germany) and SIDance (Seoul International Dance festival) in Korea.
FORTUNE (2022) was created with Navdhara India Dance Theatre from Mumbai, India. In this creation our perspective on fortune and being fortunate changed completely after we spent several weeks in Mumbai creating, rehearsing and going around. FORTUNE performed all over the Netherlands, and will go abroad in season ‘23/’24 after it performed again on international dancefestival Julidans 2023 in Amsterdam.
EMPATHY (premiere October 2023) is inspired by a fieldtrip through Mexico, with Moves and conjunto Santander from Guadalajara, the creation of Islands of Empathy in a sea of chaos focuses on the feeling of belonging to a community based on empathy towards the need of others, socials structures based on caring and being cared for. As the following step in the creation Guy, Roni and the dancers will do a fieldtrip with Pape Seck – a Senegalese musician based in Groningen, to Senegal for an exchange with musicians; and dancers with Alesandra Seutin / Ecole Des Sables.
